About Us:

Hospice Association of Transkei provides Home Based Palliative Care to patients that have Cancer, HIV/AIDS and TB. We host community awareness campaigns and community dialogues to address stigma and discrimination amongst the community and to address Human Rights violations.

We are an empathic and caring organisation that has the best interest of the community at heart.

Our Objectives:

  • To provide care and support to the terminally ill and their families.
  • To help control all types of pain, that is, spiritual, and emotional, by employing the services of professionals as well as volunteers drawn from the public. 
  • To educate the community about Hospice, its nature and activities.
  • To train Hospice staff and volunteers.
  • To raise funds for the furtherance of the above.
  • To acquire, lease or rent or make available premises for Hospice.
  • To organize pre-bereavement seminars, counseling and other related bereavement support services.
  • To affiliate to existing Hospices nationally and internationally.
  • To carry out any activity related to Hospice services.
  • To establish support groups at strategic points of the community in the community being served.
  • To sensitize the families and the general public on terminal illness and the importance of dignified death.
  • To promote acceptance of the people with terminal illness and to inculcate dedication in home-based care.
  • To change the mindset about terminal illness and the negative attitude towards HIV/AIDS.
  • To revive “UBUNTU” and sow a spirit of neighborliness and care for the sick.
  • To provide nutrition for the terminally ill who are destitute and in need of food.
  • To network with other governmental organization and other NGO’s/CBO’s dealing with health and welfare of the people.
